    As a board member of SubseaUK and SUT committees part of Geoff Lyon’s remit is to ensure benefit for members of each organisation is improved by synergy.

  • Geoff Lyons continues on the SUT London & South of England committee following the AGM in November.

    This committee is seeing a re-invigoration in interest despite (or because of) the current oil price reductions. In particular SUT+ for younger members is seeing a spectacular increase in activities.

    Geoff also leads the SubseaUK South East committee which aims to promote the subsea industry in the South of England.

  • After 3 years as Chairman of the Aberdeen branch of the Society of Underwater Technology BPP’s Regional Manager: Chris Milner stood down at that branch’s AGM and annual dinner.

    There were approximately 160 guests who were amused by the after dinner speaker Brian Taylor, BBC Scotland’s Political Editor, and ‘heads and tails’ in support of the educational support fund. Chris remains on the SUT Aberdeen committee which continues to be vibrant.

  • BPP-TECH, in alliance with Welaptega, provides a comprehensive “Fitness for Purpose” evaluation of floating vessel mooring systems. An on-site, detailed quantitative underwater inspection is a critical component for advanced assessments.  
     
    Mooring failure is a Class 1 hazard, the highest rating by the UK Health and Safety Executive.

  • BPP-TECH continues to support Subsea UK with its tour of universities, encouraging students to get involved with the subsea sector. Its latest initiative saw member companies visit Cranfield University to introduce 30 students to the opportunities available in the industry.

  • BPP-TECH has won a contract to investigate specific failures of wind turbine gearboxes and bearings using our engineering and specialist metallurgical expertise.

    This work comes after recently providing technical support to investigate an onshore gas line failure. BPP-TECH’s independent forensic analyses ensure failure causation is understood, and allows the occurrence frequency and consequence of future incidents to be reduced.
